Quick answer
Paid a scammer by debit or credit card? Use chargeback or Section 75. Tricked into a bank transfer? Use the new APP reimbursement rules. Picking the right route is half the battle — here’s which applies and how to claim each.

“How do I get my money back?” depends entirely on how you paid. Get the route right and you’ll claim far faster.
Card payment → chargeback or Section 75
If you paid by card, your bank may be able to reverse the payment via chargeback, and for credit-card purchases over £100 you may have a Section 75 claim against the card provider. See our chargeback and Section 75 guide for how to claim.
Bank transfer → APP reimbursement
If you were tricked into making a bank transfer (Faster Payments/CHAPS) on or after 7 October 2024, you claim under the mandatory APP reimbursement rules — your bank must usually refund you within 5 business days, up to £85,000. (For gas and electricity disputes, see the Energy Ombudsman guide.)
Not sure which?
Whichever route fits, the claim is free and a claims company isn’t needed. Report it to your bank and Action Fraud first — then let Chris draft the right claim for the way you paid.

Your bank must refund authorised-scam losses — for free.
But how you word the claim matters. Chris drafts your reimbursement claim — and the Ombudsman complaint if the bank refuses. You keep 100%.

Tell us what has happened and what you need. Every document is quoted case by case, on its size and the time it needs, and the price is agreed with you by email before any work starts. Nothing is charged until you say go.
Once agreed, it comes back to you within one working day (business documents usually within the hour). You read it, check every date and figure, sign it and file it: it stays your document throughout. No need to attach anything now — once we reply, you send your papers by email.
