Some recognitions are about a product. This one is about a person, and about a community. Gold Membership of The Ingenuity Lab is awarded for contribution to the community of founders who build there — for leadership, engagement, peer support and generosity to others who are trying to get something off the ground. It is, quite deliberately, a recognition of character rather than of a company.
What Gold Membership actually recognises
The Ingenuity Lab is part of the Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Nottingham. It is defined less by its facilities than by the people in it — a community of founders at every stage, learning out loud alongside one another. Gold Membership is a nod to the founders who make that community what it is: the ones who answer the message, sit down with someone stuck on a problem, and remember that the person two desks over is building something hard too.
“Building a company alone is exactly that — alone,” says Scott Snaith, founder of eLitigant CIC. “What the Ingenuity Lab gets profoundly right is that it refuses to let founders stay that way. I have taken at least as much from that room as I have ever given to it.”
Not for the desk space. For the room.
It is easy to think of a place like this as somewhere to work. The people who spend real time there tend to describe it differently — as a room, not a resource.
“If you are building something in the East Midlands, or thinking about it, the Ingenuity Lab is where I would start,” Snaith adds. “Not for the desk space. For the room.”
Credit for that room belongs to the Lab’s leadership and team, whose work holds the community together and makes it a place founders want to give back to.
From that room to England & Wales
